Today was alot of plates cleaning as well. We were to spend the entire day on cleaning the plates on the heat exchanger of the fresh water generator. The thing hasn't been cleaned in 10 years so there was alot of replacement of gaskets. Despite there being half as many as plates as before. These were in much worse condition and took more time. After work, we were allowed the opportunity to go ashore to Walmart to buy things we forgot and stuff the ship needed or people in the ship wanted. We went ashore thanks to our Captain who went with us. Chris and I also had chicken fil-a. It was delicious
A breathtaking adventure of the young soon to be naval architects or marine engineers, Aaron Tam and Chris Herrel sail across the great seas. A grand journey where they will encounter the mysteries of naval architecture, marine engineering, and the world as they travel aboard the Stolt Sapphire.

Work day 3 The Green Butterflies
So another day on ship. When we woke we were enroute to Freeport Texas. We went to the engine room to begin out days work. We began our day with our first drawing (sw cooling system). Afterwards we assisted in putting the insulation on the economizer (for one of the boilers). After lunch Chris and I split up. Chris went to work with the galley drains (which smells not wonderful). While I got to help assemble the piston. When they were on port in houston they switched out a cylinder with a spare in the main engine. So I was working with constructing the new spare. We finished the day with finishing our sw cooling system drawing. What a busy Christmas. I would say. However, they said real Christmas is after Panama. So I'm excited for post-panama Christmas, stars, and Asia

Work Day 2 Much Plates Such Clean
So today was an exciting adventure. Our day began with cleaning the freshwater generators plates with the fourth engineer. Followed by drying them and checking if the gaskets were still in tact. Quite a few were not and required to be glued back in. With the repair and cleaning completed we put the plates back into the freshwater generator. The plates were then tightened in. Though it may not seem much work it was 60 plates. That's alot of plates.

Work day 1
So today we began out work. With out new equipment we began our tasks. First we assisted and observed the removal of the plates of a plate type fresh water generator. Followed with filling some forms and then assisting the 4th engineer in sludge pumping ashore. Though not major projects alot was learned from just examining!
